Ayurveda is the traditional medicine of India whose aim is to bring harmony between our thoughts, our feelings and our physical actions.
In Sanskrit Veda means “knowledge” and Ayur “life”. It comes to us from the Rishis, the great sages of ancient India who, through their meditations and discovery of the physical and spiritual worlds, discerned the bases of the nature of the universe and the place of man in the cosmos.
According to the Shankya philosophy, 5 elements (Ether, Air, Fire, Water and Earth) combine into 3 energies which constitute the bases of the universe called the doshas. Vata (space + air) Pitta (fire + water) and Kapha (earth + water).
Ayurvedic therapists identify their client's Prakiti (percentage of doshas) in order to best advise them on their lifestyle. And also identify their Vikriti (imbalance of their Dosha).
